If you are just beginning a healthy living journey and are looking for some advice on how to get started, I would tell you this: Find one small thing you can change, add, or subtract to your current lifestyle. Start there. Too vague? An example would be alcohol consumption. Yes, I'm going there. I love wine. I love my little evening treat of a glass (sometimes 2) of wine. However, my husband and I checked out our budget from 2011 and saw how much extra money we were spending on wine and realized we could have taken a really great vacation for all that money! Also, I figured that extra 150-300 calories each night were not helping the extra few pounds I was carrying around. That adds up quick! I'm not giving up wine completely. I just thought I would give it up for January and then next month save it for the weekends. Guess what? I'm down 3 pounds! I'm not sure if it's all because of the wine, but I am certain it's helping.
What is your baby step? Soda? Sugar? Salt? Lack of activity? Try to change too many things at once and you are less likely to stick with it. Make a habit of one thing before you move on to the next. Good luck!
